Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro praised the call he made yesterday, Wednesday, with his American counterpart, Donald Trump, who once again threatened drug traffickers from South American countries.
Maduro said that the contact can be described as “friendly and based on mutual respect,” adding that it “means opening the door to dialogue between our two countries, and we welcome dialogue for peace, and we welcome diplomacy.”
The Venezuelan president, who stressed more than once that he does not want war, said, “The American people are tired of wars, and we know that they do not want to repeat the experience of Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Vietnam.”
Earlier, Trump spoke about what he called his short call with Maduro, saying that the matter with Venezuela goes beyond a pressure campaign, adding that he told Maduro some things during the call.
Regarding the ongoing US military buildup in the Caribbean region, Trump said, “We will soon begin targeting drug smuggling by land,” referring to not being satisfied with naval strikes on smuggler boats heading to his country, as he claimed.
According to leaks reported by Reuters, citing 4 informed sources, Trump set a deadline for his Venezuelan counterpart – during a short phone call on November 21 – to leave Venezuela with his family members to the destination of his choice.
On the other hand, the Venezuelan president confirmed, during a gathering attended by thousands of his supporters in front of the presidential palace in Caracas, last Monday, that he rejects the “slave peace,” noting that the American military deployment in the Caribbean region has been putting the country “to the test” for 22 weeks.
