The leader of the Formula 1 world classification, the British Lando Norris, from McLaren, was the fastest driver this Friday in the only free practice session of the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris clocked 1 minute, 9 seconds and 975 thousandths in the best of his 31 laps at the Interlagos circuit in Sao Paulo, on a sunny day despite fears of rain throughout the weekend.
His teammate and biggest rival for the title, the Australian Oscar Piastri, set the second best time (1:09.988).
In turn, the German Nicolas HĂĽlkenberg, from Sauber, followed him with the third best time (1:10.594).
With four races to go, Norris leads the standings with 357 points, one more than Piastri; while the Dutchman Max Verstappen, from Red Bull, keeps alive his aspirations of winning his fifth consecutive title, occupying third place, 36 units behind the leader.
They were not good tests, however, for Verstappen.
His time (1.11.368) left him in the seventeenth place in training. Mad Max has won this race in 2019, 2023 and 2024.
The local idol, the Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto, from Sauber, did have a promising practice, with the fifth best time (1:10.616), behind the Spanish Fernando Alonso (1:10.606).
Later, starting at 3:30 p.m. local time (6:30 p.m. GMT), qualifying for Saturday’s sprint race will take place.
