Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned this Sunday that his country will do “everything necessary” to prevent the strengthening of the Hezbollah group in Lebanon and the position of Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
“We will continue to fight terrorism on multiple fronts,” Netanyahu said during a cabinet meeting.
“This weekend, the Israeli army attacked Lebanon and we will continue to do everything necessary to prevent Hezbollah from regaining its ability to threaten our territories,” the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
“We are also doing so in the Gaza Strip. Since the ceasefire came into force, Hamas has consistently violated it and we are acting accordingly,” he continues.
“There were several attempts by them (Hamas) to penetrate our territory, beyond the ‘yellow line’ and try to harm our soldiers. We thwarted this with considerable force and we also responded, imposing a high price on them”, he adds.
The attack in south Beirut comes days before Pope Leo XIV’s visit to the country.
