The French Counter-Terrorism Unit announced the detention of 3 people as part of an investigation into a “terrorist” threat suspected of being linked to Salah Abdel Salam, the sole survivor of the perpetrators of the Paris attacks on November 13, 2015, which resulted in the deaths of 130 people and hundreds of injuries.
The investigation comes days before France commemorates the tenth anniversary of the attacks, which are considered the worst in the country’s modern history, while Abdel Salam continues to serve his sentence in the “Fandan-le-Ville” prison in northern France after being convicted of participating in those attacks.
The authorities explained that the investigation was opened in January 2025 after a data storage unit (USB) was illegally seized in Abdel Salam’s possession inside the prison.
The Counter-Terrorism Unit reported that it had expanded the investigation to include suspicion of “terrorist conspiracy with the intention of preparing a crime against individuals.”
The French Public Prosecutor indicated that Abdel Salam was again subjected to interrogation on Friday, while RTL radio reported that his partner, called “Maeva B.” She is 27 years old and has been arrested since Tuesday.
She confronts Maeva B. Charges related to “delivering illicit materials to a detainee” and “conspiracy to commit a terrorist crime.” Her detention period was extended for an additional 24 hours after 96 hours had passed since her arrest, in light of the ongoing investigations into her relationship with Abdel Salam.
The Public Prosecutor added that two other people were arrested on Friday in the same case, and are being investigated on charges of “criminal terrorist conspiracy.”
A source in the prison union told Agence France-Presse that the missing USB storage unit is believed to have been used to transfer inflammatory propaganda to Abdel Salam’s computer, which he was allowed to use as part of rehabilitation lessons inside the prison.
The device has not yet been found, while Abdel Salam is subject to strict surveillance procedures that include periodic searches and frequent changes of his place of detention.
On November 13, 2015, the French capital, Paris, witnessed a series of simultaneous bloody attacks in 6 different locations, killing at least 129 people and wounding approximately 352, and was considered the worst in the country since World War II.
