Digital platforms reacted as Zahran Kwame Mamdani approached winning the position of Mayor of New York as the first Muslim in the history of the American state, amid differences in the opinions of activists and tweeters regarding this candidate and his election campaign.
According to the latest updates, Mamdani is leading in the early elections – which began a few days ago and ended today – while the New York Times published a list of the most important opinion polls, all of which showed him leading the electoral race by a large margin over his competitors.
Mamdani posted a video on his official accounts of him eating Nabulsi kunafa and speaking in Arabic, and attached the title, “I am Zahran Mamdani, and I am nominated to be the new mayor of New York City.”
In detail, Mamdani presents himself as the people’s candidate and a mass politician, and in most of his speeches he is famous for talking about the suffering of the poor class in New York.
He used to visit mosques regularly. He has entered more than 180 mosques since his candidacy, and made his faith as a Muslim a clear part of his election campaign for mayor of New York.
But before entering the world of politics, Mamdani was a rap music coach, and was known for his strong criticism of Israel, and he founded the “Students for Justice in Palestine” association at his university.
In all, his election campaign focused on three main priorities: stopping rent hikes, providing free public transportation, and imposing taxes on large corporations to fund basic services.
Likewise, Mamdani promised to build 200,000 housing units at affordable prices, and raise the minimum wage to $30 per hour by 2030.
Divergent opinions
In the episode (11/2/2025), the “Shabakat” program monitored an aspect of the interaction of digital platforms with Mamdani approaching winning the position of Mayor of New York in the elections scheduled for next Tuesday, and the opinions of tweeters.
Among these comments, Khairy believes that Mamdani expresses a new generation of American politicians who reject the Western intellectual cloak and strive to achieve justice. He wrote:
Zahran Mamdani is a phenomenon that expresses a new generation of American politicians who do not belong to the Western intellectual system and are trying to build a new discourse based on justice and opposition to exploitation.
As for Abdullah, he sees Mamdani’s use of the Arabic language during the election campaign as “evidence of his respect and appreciation for the Arab community in the United States,” suggesting that he will win the elections.
A very smart move by Mamdani. Politics is the art of understanding people, and his use of the Arabic language is evidence of respect and appreciation for the Arab community in America. If he continues this approach to the people, his chances of winning are very high.
“Sam” expressed his conviction that Mamdani’s adherence to his Arab roots will upset his opponents and haters, wishing him success in the electoral race.
If you don’t speak Arabic, you’ll shut them down. Now (now), what will happen to them? God willing, you will succeed, Bro.
But Duva sees in Mamdani’s electoral policy a clear attempt to win Arab and Muslim votes, claiming that he “knows nothing about Islam,” and that he supports homosexuals and liberalism.
A clear electoral gain that touches the hearts of Muslims and Arabs, and he does not know Islam from near or far. Supports LGBT people and is liberal.
On the other hand, Ali ruled out Mamdani winning the position of mayor of New York in light of the American right’s determination to confront him, “even though he enjoys great acceptance among Arabs and Muslims.”
Men: It appears from the video that his blood is light and acceptable to Arabs and Muslims, but I think the American right will not allow him to win.
It is noteworthy that US President Donald Trump described Mamdani as an obsessed communist, adding that “all the fools support him,” and also vowed to arrest him if he opposed the operations of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Trump’s attack on Mamdani was not limited to statements, as he threatened to cut off federal funding for New York City if he wins the current elections.
