Eight gypsy associations will file a complaint with the Public Prosecutor’s Office against posters by presidential election candidate André Ventura relating to the community and are considering taking precautionary measures to remove the advertisements.
On behalf of the eight associations, the vice-president of the Letras Nómadas association pointed out that constitutionalist Vitalino Canas has already admitted that there may be signs of a crime, so the various associations are gathering evidence to file a complaint with the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP), at the same time as they are considering moving forward with precautionary measures.
At issue are posters by Chega’s presidential candidate, André Ventura, with messages targeting specific communities, including one that reads “Gypsies must comply with the law”.
Bruno Gonçalves explained that the objective of the precautionary measure is not only to force the removal of posted posters, but also to prohibit new posters from being placed in public spaces.
The person in charge said that he was alerted to the existence of the posters on Friday, the 24th, which he described as “an interesting day” as it was Municipal Equality Day.
The warning came from “a person from the gypsy community”, a resident of Moita, who sent a photograph of the poster, which led the association to try to understand if there were more posters in other parts of the country.
