Google is developing a new feature for its Phone app called Expressive Calling. This feature allows users to specify the reason for their call before the call is made. Particularly interesting is the ability to mark calls as urgent, which can result in these calls being put through even in Do Not Disturb mode.
The Expressive Calling feature, currently under development under the codename ‘expresso’, offers various calling reasons to choose from, including ‘Catch up’, ‘News to share’, ‘Quick question’ and ‘It’s urgent!’. These reasons are displayed to the recipient of the call, which is intended to make communication more efficient.
To use this feature, users must grant SMS permission to the Google Phone app. This is necessary so that the app can transmit the reason for the call to the recipient. This innovation could be of particular interest to Pixel users, as the function could initially be available exclusively for these devices.
