Generation Z will demonstrate this Saturday in the streets of Mexico City and in dozens of states. Its passage through main avenues and the security devices implemented for the occasion suggest that it will be a complicated day for motorists.
Problems such as inequality, unemployment, homelessness and corruption have raised political awareness and the need for action in young people in various countries around the world.
The demonstrations have happened mostly in developing countries, but also in France. In each country, these protests have taken a particular shape and have become strong enough to change governments, as happened in Nepal and Madagascar. This Saturday the first large demonstration under this collective name will be held in Mexico, where the violence of organized crime and the government’s response constitute an important component of the discontent.
It is expected that there will be marches in more than 50 cities, and that Mexico City will be the one with the largest attendance.
With this in consideration, We present the route that the contingent will follow and the road alternatives.
The rally will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Angel of Independence, but the surrounding streets will be closed in advance.
March route:
- Concentration on the Angel of Independence
- Advance along Paseo de la Reforma towards the Historic Center.
- Continuation along Juárez Avenue.
- Taking of the Lázaro Cárdenas Central Axis.
- Advance along 5 de Mayo Avenue to the Zócalo, where there will be a statement by some organizers.
It is estimated that the journey will last from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Streets closed due to the march of Generation Z
- Paseo de la Reforma, between the Diana Cazadora roundabout and Bucareli avenue.
- Juarez Avenue.
- Lázaro Cárdenas Central Axis, between Juárez and 5 de Mayo.
- Avenida 5 de Mayo and streets surrounding the Zócalo.
- 20 de Noviembre and Pino Suárez avenues will have restricted access.
Road alternatives to avoid the departure of Generation Z
To avoid the area, the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) recommends driving through:
- Interior Circuit.
- Chapultepec Avenue and Río de la Loza.
- Axis 1 North and Axis 1 East.
- José María Izazaga and Fray Servando Teresa de Mier.
The Generation Z movement is presented as non-partisan and organized by the participants themselves through social networks. Their questions are directed at authorities at all levels and political parties. However, the Mexican government has insisted that there is a conspiracy by the opposition and the international right behind it.
