This Friday, December 12, the General Water Law formally came into force, after it was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), in addition to reforming, adding and repealing various provisions of the National Water Law.
The Law, he highlights, regulates article 4, paragraph eight, of the Constitution regarding the human right to access, disposal and sanitation of water for personal and domestic consumption.

“It establishes the bases, supports and modalities for access, equitable and sustainable use of water resources; its interdependence with other human rights; distributes powers and establishes cases of concurrence between the Federation, federal entities and municipalities”he points out.
The objective of the Law refers to defining the content of the human right to water and establishing the provisions that guarantee its equitable access and sustainable use; and promote, respect, protect and guarantee the human right to water for personal and domestic consumption, its access, disposal and sanitation in accordance with the Constitution and international treaties on human rights to which the Mexican State is a party.
Also establish the instances, instruments and procedures for the participation of the Federation, federal entities and municipalities in the protection of the human right to water.

Additionally, define the mechanisms, instruments and instances of citizen participation in equitable access and sustainable use of water for personal and domestic consumption; guarantee equitable and sustainable access to public water and sanitation services, as well as strengthen the bases of their operation.
It adds establishing the bases of public policies that guarantee gender, disability, intercultural, intergenerational, ecosystem and age perspectives, to promote conditions of equity in water management and governance, and promote water culture.
