Fort Bragg, North Carolina recently hosted a heartwarming event that highlighted the spirit of community and gratitude. Hundreds of military families gathered to take part in the annual ‘Trees for Troops’ event. This initiative, created by the Christmas Spirit Foundation, has donated over 325,000 Christmas trees to military families in the United States and abroad since 2005.
The event was organized by the Fort Bragg Family and Morale, Welfare, and Recreation and brought joy and festive cheer to the community. Volunteers helped unload, trim and mark more than 600 trees throughout the day so each family could take home a fresh tree. This gesture of gratitude is intended to bring a little joy to the soldiers and their families during the often stressful Christmas season.
James Day, Supervisory Program Analyst for Community Recreation at Fort Bragg, emphasized the importance of this effort: “It’s about giving back. We want to make sure we provide them with resources that will boost their holiday spirit because it can be a difficult time and these little things can help brighten the holidays for our Soldiers.”
Despite the cold and rainy weather, families waited patiently to choose their tree. Volunteers from Better Opportunity for Single Soldiers assisted the families in carrying and securing the trees to their vehicles. For many families, this event has become a tradition that marks the beginning of the Christmas season at Fort Bragg.
Tyreek Logan, BOSS Advisor and Liaison at Fort Bragg, also commented on the importance of the campaign: “It means the world to me to help others, especially when they are in need. I try to help in any way I can.”
The Trees for Troops initiative is a shining example of the community spirit and support shown to military families during this special time of year. One soldier shared that after decorating the tree, his family wanted to start a new tradition: baking cookies together. “It’s the little things that make the holidays special,” he said.
