This Friday night began a new film story for Mexicobut especially for the northwest border of the country with the first edition of the Tijuana Film Festival (FCTJ), whose objective is to promote cinema as art, language, and a means of reflection in the community.
“We want to create a synergy between the industry and the creative development of the region so that it is a platform that positions Tijuana in a better understanding of the creative industry.
“In the ‘calibaja’ region we have everything, there is a lot of talent living in Mexico City and succeeding in many places in the world such as Venice, a test is part of the programming of this festival and we know that, if we continue doing things together, well articulated, this event is ready to succeed and be projected internationally starting next year,” said the Secretary of Culture of Baja California, Illya Haro.

Tijuana Film Festival with an investment of 10 million pesos
He FCTJ has a year of planning, in which the Secretariat is accompanied by the leaders of the film industry who are the founding partners and for whom they have invested 10 million pesoswhile the economic impact will be reported in a few more days.
The actor Silverio Palacios He was one of the guests of this first edition and said he had all his hopes pinned on this event because he assured that: “Tijuana is generous, it is an unlimited frontier for film creation, so in that sense I hope it will be the first of many Tijuana Film Festivals, in which I hope I can always participate, because here I feel embraced, loved, I have great friends here and all border people have something special.”
Palacios gave a workshop to young people and on Saturday he will offer a conversation with the prominent actor Gustavo Sánchez Parra.
When questioned about his appreciation of the young people from Tijuana with whom he shared his experience, the Mexican playwright, screenwriter and director also maintained that they are enviable. “They have talent, they have youth and a whole life ahead of them, I am already in retirement,” he told 24 HORAS.

For his part, the Tijuana director David Pablos (“The Dance of 41”, “The Chosen”, “On the way“) and who is the special guest of this first edition of the FCTJ said it feels great to be at this festival and return to his homeland after six years of absence.
“I feel very happy to see this city, I am very excited to present my film here, before it is released in commercial cinemas. It is very endearing, it is the city where I grew up, which formed me, so there is something comforting about being here,” he added.
After the red carpet along which young people who are making their debut in the film industry in this border city also paraded, the presentation of the winning short films of this first edition of the Tijuana Film Festival took place, which its organizers hope will last for many more years at its headquarters, the Beaches Culture House from Tijuana, in Baja California.
