The Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Rural Development of the state of Guerrero (Sagadegro) detected the first positive case of screwworm in cattle.
Through a statement, the state agency reported that the detection was possible thanks to the collaboration of local rancherswhich allowed the immediate intervention of the United States-Mexico Commission for the Prevention of Foot and Mouth Disease and other exotic diseases of Animals (CPA).

According to the report, on November 1, The CPA received a suspicious report in the municipality of Tecoanapawhere technical personnel went.
They apply protocol and treatment against screwworm
On site, They took samples from a female bovineapproximately five years old, who had a lesion on the upper part of the udder. Likewise, they proceeded to clean the injury and apply the corresponding treatment. Meanwhile, the samples taken were sent to a specialized laboratory in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas.
By November 2, the complete treatment was carried out, in accordance with the health protocol, to ensure that the producer can continue his livestock activities normally.

The local authorities detailed that from November 3 to 6, The CPA led sanitary sweeping actions in a 20 km radius around the detection pointwith the aim of reviewing possible cases; however, these were not detected. In addition, there were talks with ranchers and authorities in order to promote participation, strengthen surveillance and prevent misinformation.
The Sagadegro revealed that the case is under control“with no signs of dispersion, and follow-up actions continue in accordance with established official protocols.” Finally, they called on citizens not to spread unverified information on the issue of screwworms.
