In solidarity with the victims and their families after the tragedy that occurred on November 1 in a Waldo’s store in Hermosillo, the State Government announced the suspension of the Sonora 2025 Book Fair, which was scheduled for November 8 to 15 at Plaza Bicentenario.
The accident, which It claimed the lives of 23 people and left 15 injured. It has left everyone deeply shocked.
In a joint statement, the Secretary of Education and Culture (SEC) and the Sonoran Institute of Culture (ISC) reported that the decision was made “with a deep sense of responsibility and empathy towards those who today face irreparable loss.”

The state authorities expressed that the suspension responds to a gesture of respect for the memory of the victims and of accompaniment to the collective mourning that overwhelms Sonoran society.
Likewise, the Government of Sonora thanked the understanding of the public, the participating publishers, authors and collaborators who make this literary meeting possible, considered one of the most important cultural events in the state.
Until now, It has not been reported whether the Book Fair will be rescheduled for a new date.
