The Senate ratified Ernestina Godoy Ramos as the new attorney general of the Republic this Wednesday, December 3, 2025, with the vote in favor of Morena, PT, PVEM and Movimiento Ciudadano.
During the ordinary session, in a vote by ballot in which The qualified majority was reached, 97 votes were cast in favor and 19 against – from the PRI and the PAN -, as well as 11 null votes, with respect to the former Legal Counsel of the Presidency.

His name appeared on the shortlist sent by President Claudia Sheinbaum to the Senate, as part of the process to designate the person who will replace Alejandro Gertz Manero, who submitted his resignation on November 27, 2025.
The Senate approved the resignation of Gertz Manero with 74 votes in favor —from Morena, PVEM and PT— and 22 against from the PAN, PRI and MC. In a letter addressed to Castillo Juárez, the outgoing prosecutor reported that President Sheinbaum had proposed him to occupy an embassy abroad. During his management, Ernestina Godoy faced constant questions about the alleged political use of the Prosecutor’s Office, since various groups in the local Congress accused that the institution had been used to persecute opponents.
Its failed ratification revealed resistance—even within the ruling bloc itself—against what some described as a “militant prosecutor” model.
Civil organizations and the media also criticized the lack of autonomy, the persistence of impunity and the politicization of various processes in the FGJ-CDMX under his leadership.
A particularly controversial case was the destruction of information requested from telephone companies about the communications of PAN figures, including Santiago Taboada, Santiago Creel and Lilly Téllez.
