Edgar Machado Peña, Commissioner of Citizen Security and Traffic of Ecatepec, warned about a possible network of foreign people linked to the “drop by drop” loans that operate in the municipality, which is why in recent weeks 11 foreigners have been presented before civic courts and subsequently channeled to the National Migration Institute (INM).
During the fifth ordinary session of the Municipal Public Security Council, Machado Peña mentioned that the issue of extortion has migrated in Ecatepecdepending on the season, since during the holiday season Easter week They recorded several cases of “cross calls,” where criminals tricked minors into leaving their homes and later demanded money from their relatives to supposedly return them.

“However, in recent weeks we have identified or discovered this complicity and network of foreigners due to the ‘drop by drop’ issue,” he explained.
He remembered that Ecatepec maintains close collaboration with the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection of the federal government, as well as with the INM and other federal and state agencies.

He reiterated that in recent weeks 11 foreigners have been detained and presented before municipal civic courts, which are subsequently channeled to the INM, which is in charge of verifying their immigration status.
During the session, Machado Pena He detailed that from January to September 2024, Ecatepec registered 258 complaints of extortion, compared to 190 in the same period this year, according to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP), which represents a 26 percent reduction in this regard.
He added that for the alleged crime of extortion, 215 anonymous complaints were received to 089 and 21 emergency calls to 911, for which the municipal police made 24 reports to the Public Ministry, with 59 arrested.

Machado Peña also reported results from the municipal police for the period from August 29 to November 6 of this year, where the reduction in the incidence of high-impact crimes was maintained, such as intentional homicide, extortion and vehicle theft, from a carrier, from collective public transportation, from auto parts, from a home, from a pedestrian and from a business.
The aforementioned session was headed by Faustino de la Cruz Perezsecretary of the City Council, representing Mayor Azucena Cisneros Coss, with the participation of representatives of the Ecatepec Justice Prosecutor’s Office, from the Secretariat of National Defense, the state police and various social sectors of the municipality, among others.
