In Mexico, the driver’s license is an official, personal and non-transferable document for people with motor vehicles, both public service and private. In addition, it serves as official identification for various procedures.
However, there is one requirement that must be taken into account when requesting it: age. What is the maximum and minimum? This is what the traffic regulations say.
Is it possible to have a driver’s license as a minor in CDMX?
Officially, you must be of legal age to have a driving license, that is, 18 years old. Despite this, minors can apply for a special permit to drive a vehicle.

According to the CDMX Mobility Secretariat, from the age of 16 it is possible to request a driving license for minors type “P”. This costs $508 Mexican pesos and can be processed at any Vehicle Control and Licensing Module. The documents that must be presented are the following:
- Official identification (original, current and with photograph).
- Proof of address from Mexico City or the State of Mexico.
- Proof of the minor’s handling course, original.
- Birth certificate of the minor.
- Identification of the minor person with photograph.
- Paid Capture Line.
Prices and requirements vary depending on the state, for example, in the State of Mexico this permit costs $2,532 pesos.
It should be noted that after reaching the age of majority it will be necessary to obtain a driver’s license in any federal entity.
Up to what age can you apply for a driver’s license?
In reality, the law does not set a maximum age for a person to process or renew their driver’s license. In accordance with article 51 of the General Law of Mobility and Road Safety, “The Federation, the federal entities and the municipalities will establish in their applicable regulations that all persons who carry out the procedure to obtain or renew a driving license or permit must accredit the comprehensive assessment exam. that demonstrates their aptitude for it, as well as the theoretical and practical examination of the necessary knowledge and skills…”.

There is no age limit to apply for a driver’s license, except in cases where the applicant’s health is an obstacle to being able to drive.
