Evelyn Palla, the new CEO of Deutsche Bahn, has announced that numerous railway systems will have to be renovated earlier than expected in order to stop the increasing wear and tear.
Current punctuality in long-distance transport is below 60 percent, and there is a risk that this situation will not improve in the coming year. Although Palla did not give explicit targets for punctuality, she did suggest that 55 percent would not be acceptable. The railway expects a total of 26,000 construction sites for 2025, which means an increase of 5,000 compared to the previous year.
