The sanctions incorporate Crimes Chapter of the General Health Lawthe criminal type that refers to the consequence for violating the prohibition of any of the behaviors indicated with respect to these devices, with a penalty of 1 to 8 years in prison and a fine equivalent to 100 to 2000 times the daily value of the Measurement and Update Unit.
The initiative warns that vape marketing uses attractive strategies such as fruity flavors, colorful packaging and social media campaigns that encourage early consumption of nicotine, promoting dependence from an early age.

“The increase in the use of vaping devices also constitutes a new form of nicotine dependence and threatens to reverse the progress achieved by anti-smoking policies implemented in Mexico during recent decades. Social tolerance towards these products can contribute to normalizing the act of smoking again, affecting educational, regulatory and health efforts aimed at creating smoke-free spaces and promoting a culture of addiction prevention,” the document highlights.
The proposed regulation seeks to especially protect girls, boys and adolescents, the most vulnerable sectors due to exposure to advertising and the availability of products with addictive potential.
