Through TikTok, the user “@soyjosepardo” made a publication addressing this topic. The video of just over a minute titled“MY MOTHER’S SOUP”, It has caused a stir among users for its moving and sad message of the reality of many families of missing people in Mexico.

What is “MY MOM’S SOUP” about?
The short video features two young people sitting at a table. While one of them has two plates of food, the other young woman only has a glass of water in front of her and declares: “This year they only left me a glass of water”; implying that they are the souls of the dead who visit their families and “eat” the different offerings placed for them.
Later, the young man is seen stopping and appreciating the food he has on his plate while saying: “My mom’s soup as delicious as always.”
The short takes an unexpected turn when the young man, in tears and with a broken voice, asks his table companion “and…do you think they’re still looking for me?”to which the other soul responds “I think so”, followed by a voice-over sound that resembles newsreel voices that are reporting on the actions and findings of groups of search mothers.
It is also accompanied by images of the offerings where you can see photos of both characters in the dining room, reaffirming the message that they are souls visiting for the Day of the Dead.

The emotional video has more than 7.1 million views and more than one million 200 thousand “likes” on the platform. In the comments section, Internet users have expressed their interpretations of the content that are most inclined to the meaning of each element within Mexican culture.
Like the soul that only has a glass of water is surely a representation of the forgotten souls, while the young man represents the missing sons or daughters who died and whose families have not found.
