Microsoft Teams, one of the world’s most widely used business communication platforms, has recently come under the radar of security researchers. These have uncovered several vulnerabilities that could potentially have serious consequences for users. The vulnerabilities allow attackers to manipulate message content and spoof the identities of colleagues without the affected users noticing.

The discovered vulnerabilities, published in a report by Check Point, allow attackers to change the sender information of messages to make them appear to come from trusted sources. This could lead to users clicking on malicious links or revealing sensitive information. What is particularly concerning is that these attacks can be carried out by both external guests and internal malicious actors.

Microsoft responded to the responsible disclosure of the vulnerabilities in March 2024 and released the first patches in August of the same year. Further updates followed in September 2024 and October 2025 to close the security gaps. The CVE-2024-38197 vulnerability, classified as a medium threat, specifically affects the iOS version of Teams and allows attackers to change the sender name in messages.

The increasing use of Microsoft Teams as a communication platform makes it an attractive target for cybercriminals and state-sponsored attackers. The platform offers extensive collaboration functions, but these can also be used as an attack vector. Experts emphasize that the integrity of digital communication is increasingly at risk and companies must pay greater attention to verifying information.
