The Cyber Police Unit of the Secretariat of Citizen Security of Mexico City (SSC-CDMX) issued an alert to consumers to take precautions when making online purchases within the framework of The Good End 2025.
This Unit considers these recommendations necessary because, in this season of offers and discounts, online scams based on social engineering are multiplying, fake websitesmalicious links, identity theft (phishing), password theft and personal data theft.
Specialists warned that, during this discount season, “cybercriminals intensify their operations and seek to take advantage of the increase in digital transactions to commit fraud and obtain illicit benefits through social networks, applications and other digital platforms.”
Most frequent types of scam
One of the most frequent modalities consists of creation of fraudulent websites that imitate the design and logo of official storesusing web addresses very similar to the real ones. “In this way, victims enter their personal or banking information believing they are making a legitimate purchase,” they pointed out.

Likewise, they are common extremely attractive offerswith prices well below the market, designed to generate sense of urgency and lead to impulse purchases without verifying the authenticity of the site or the seller.

Due to the above, the Cyber Police Unit issued some security recommendations to make safe purchases during The Good End 2025 and avoid, as much as possible, being a victim of digital fraud:
- Verify the authenticity of websites, check the urllook for the security lock (https://)and make sure it is the official page.
- Don’t click on suspicious links, especially if they arrive via text messages from strange numbers or come from unknown email addresses.
- Use secure payment methods preferably digital cards or platforms that offer fraud protection.
- Update the software and the antivirusthese keep your electronic devices protected against possible attacks.
- Doubt offers that are too good, sometimes common sense is the best defense.
- Do not share bank or payment card details via text or phone.
- Activate the two step verification on your social networks.
