The vehicle assembly industry in Mexico warned about the arrival of a possible crisis, in the midst of negotiations to impose new tariffs on various automobile products and components from China.
The increase in tariffs would mainly affect the acquisition of digital touch screens for modern car dashboards, whose around 800 components come from different countries, mainly China, and are acquired thanks to complex supply chains in the sector.
The main shipowners say that looking for new suppliers would take time and increase costs in a market dominated by the Chinese industry.

He government of Mexico He assures that imposing tariffs on these articles seeks to reduce the trade deficit with China and strengthen the national industry, within the framework of avoiding the imposition of tariffs by the US and an imminent review of the T-MEC.
Companies like Aumovio, which produces screens for brands like Ford, expressed their concern and explained to the authorities their dependence on these products for assembly.
Likewise, the Mexican government’s initiative – which Congress will discuss at the end of November – also affects imports of automobiles and sectors such as textiles and footwear, with rates ranging between 10% and 50%.
