In the municipality of Almoloya de Juárezthe road expansion in San Francisco Tlalcilalcalpan came under scrutiny after a collapse occurred this Thursday on one of the slopes, an incident that left a young worker identified as Alejandro, 28, injured.
He land collapse It occurred while excavation maneuvers were being carried out to convert the highway into a four-lane road, a project that state authorities have promoted as a key piece to improve mobility in the area.
Elements of municipal Civil Protection came with the PC-12 unit to provide first aid and transfer the affected person to the Adolfo López Mateos Hospital. However, the institutional response failed to calm discontent among neighbors, who claim that the accident was foreseeable.
“From the first day we saw how they were removing earth without reinforcing the slopes. This could be seen coming and no one did anything,” laments Roberto Hernández, a resident of GEO Villas.
The work, managed directly by the Ministry of Mobility, has become the target of criticism for the apparent lack of technical supervision. Neighbors and activists point out that the state government acts with haste and discretion, prioritizing physical progress over security.
“We are not talking about a private company, it is the state secretariat. Where are their experts, their prevention measures? Who guarantees that lives are not put at risk?” asks Gabriela Morales, a member of a local group.
Municipal authorities have insisted that the expansion will benefit more than 50,000 inhabitants, but for many, the argument is insufficient given the signs of negligence.
The general perception is that the project is advancing faster than security measures.
“The work can be useful, yes, but first it must be guaranteed that it does not put those who work there or those of us who live around at risk,” says Hernández.
He slope collapse It adds to the concerns that residents have expressed for weeks: cuts on local roads, vibrations from heavy machinery and accumulation of materials without adequate signage.
