With the start of Buen Fin just around the corner, the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) recommends that buyers inform themselves before making any purchase and rely on digital tools that allow comparison.
To do this, the agency made available its platform “Who’s Who in Prices for the Good End”, a site that allows you to consult and monitor the prices of more than 500 products in real time.
Through its web portal, consumers can identify if an item really dropped in price or if it maintains the same cost as previous weeks.
According to Profeco, monitoring covers categories such as electronics, appliances, white goods and technology, among other items with high demand during the season.
The institution also suggests reviewing the price history before purchasing, since some stores tend to modify their rates in advance to appear greater discounts.
In its October 2023 Consumer Magazine, Profeco warned about the importance of avoiding impulsive purchases and checking the security of online sites.
Likewise, he recommends reading reviews from other consumers and making sure that suppliers are enrolled in the official El Buen Fin program.
Profeco also reminds us of the existence of Virtual Store Monitoring (available at profeco.gob.mx/tiendasvirtuales), where you can check whether businesses comply with the obligations established by law.
Before making a purchase, it is advisable to confirm that the pages have security certificates, such as ” and the closed lock icon, as well as read the terms and conditions of the site.
In addition to the official tool, there are applications and browser extensions that help compare prices and analyze the historical behavior of products.
Among the most used are Keepa and CamelCamelCamel, specialized in price tracking on Amazon, as well as extensions available in Google Chrome such as Honey or Meli Tools, which allow you to track discounts and show automatic comparisons.
These platforms record price fluctuations and notify users when an item reaches its lowest point, allowing purchases to be scheduled more accurately. They also offer graphs or trend alerts that make it easier to make decisions without relying solely on discount advertising.
In the case of technological products such as phones, tablets or computers, Profeco recommends researching new models and those that are about to be released, since this directly influences prices. When a brand launches a new version, previous models tend to naturally drop, even outside of the sale season.
Before buying, it is suggested to make a list of real needs, compare technical specifications and avoid purchasing items only on impulse. In the case of physical stores, Profeco advises keeping receipts and reviewing return or warranty policies, since these conditions must be respected during the Buen Fin and in online purchases.
Finally, the agency invites consumers to report irregularities in prices, non-compliance with promotions or misleading advertising through the Consumer Telephone or the Profeco Report application. In this way, users can protect their rights and contribute to a more transparent consumer environment.
