The head of the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Omar García Harfuch, responded with gratitude to the proposal of the US Undersecretary of State Christopher Landau to strengthen security cooperation after the murder of Carlos Manzo, mayor of Uruapan.

During the press conference of the Security Cabinet held this Sunday, the head of the SSPC indicated that if there is information in this regard “Of course we receive it as in this, or in any other case, that we work in close collaboration with them in exchange of information.”

The official stressed that Mexico maintains a relationship of constant collaboration with agencies of the neighboring country, in matters of security, and that any joint effort that contributes to peace “will always be positive for both countries.”

Landau assures that the US is willing to work together to eradicate organized crime

Through his X account, Undersecretary Landau expressed his government’s willingness to deepen security cooperation with Mexico.

After the recent murder of Mayor Manzo, the legislator explained that the interest in strengthening cooperation is in order to combat organized crime on both sides of the border.

“On this Day of the Dead, my thoughts are with the family and friends of Carlos Manzo, mayor of Uruapan, Michoacán, Mexico, who was murdered last night during a public Day of the Dead celebration.

“The United States is willing to deepen security cooperation with Mexico to eradicate organized crime on both sides of the border,” Landau wrote.
