The end of the year is approaching and, in Mexico, this also announces the proximity of the bonus payment. This benefit established by law becomes a key economic support for millions of households, as it helps face the extra expenses generated during the end of the year celebrations.

According to the Federal Labor Law (LFT), The minimum bonus is equivalent to 15 days of salary for those who have worked the full year. This amount is the legal floor, although it can be increased if so stipulated in individual or collective contracts.
What is the deadline to receive the bonus in 2025?
In accordance with the provisions of the article 87 of the Federal Labor Law, employers are obliged to pay the full bonus to their workers no later than December 20 of each year.
This provision seeks to guarantee that people have this additional income before the December festivities, to be able to cover seasonal expenses.
What happens if they don’t pay the bonus on time?
The Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare points out that Employers who do not pay the bonus, deliver it incompletely or after the established deadline, may be sanctioned in accordance with article 1002 of the Federal Labor Law.
The fines contemplated range from 50 to 5 thousand times the Unit of Measurement and Update (UMA) current, established by the INEGI. By 2025, this is equivalent to sanctions ranging between 5,657 pesos and 565,700 pesos.

In case of non-compliance, the Federal Attorney for the Defense of Labor (PROFEDET) is the institution in charge of providing advice, assistance and free legal representation to workers, beneficiaries and unionswith the aim of defending their labor and social security rights.
