Bitnomial Clearinghouse LLC has received approval from the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to clear fully collateralized swaps. This approval allows parent company Bitnomial to launch prediction markets and offer clearing services to other platforms. The new markets will focus on crypto and economic events, expanding the existing offering of Bitcoin and crypto derivatives.
The CFTC approval is a significant step for Bitnomial as it expands the range of trading products it offers. The Chicago-based company already offers perpetuals, futures, options contracts and leveraged spot trading. Bitnomial’s clearinghouse also supports crypto-based margining and settlement, allowing approved products to be margined and settled directly in digital assets.
Michael Dunn, President of Bitnomial, emphasized that the approval allows the company to serve both its own exchange and external partners, building a clearing network that strengthens the entire prediction markets ecosystem. Bitnomial Clearinghouse operates as a pure infrastructure provider rather than a retail competitor, allowing approved partners to access its margin and settlement systems and convert collateral between US dollars and cryptocurrencies.
The approval follows a recent permission to launch a CFTC-regulated spot cryptocurrency trading platform in the US. This platform allows customers to buy, sell and trade leveraged and non-leveraged crypto products on a federally supervised exchange. Prediction markets have become a significant trend, with platforms such as Kalshi and Polymarket recording significant trading volumes in recent months.
