Bayern Munich’s record revenue reached one billion euros sports

Bayern Munich, the leader of the German Football League, announced on Sunday that it had achieved a new record annual revenue of 978.3 million euros ($1.13 billion), with the re-election of its president, Herbert Hainer, for a third term of 3 years.

The two announcements came during the Bavarian club’s general assembly meeting, where its revenues for the 2024-2025 season increased by 2.8% compared to the previous season (978.3 million euros compared to 951.5 million euros in the previous season).

The club achieved a profit of 27.1 million euros, down from 43.1 million euros in the 2023-2024 season and 35.7 million euros in the previous season.

Its CEO, Jan Christian Driessen, said: “Despite the difficult times and the transfer market that is witnessing great development, we have once again achieved record revenues and achieved a strong profit.”

He added, “This shows the exceptional strength and solidity of our club. We are not fickle, and Bayern Munich is stable.”

Last season’s champion also announced that the number of its members had reached 432,500, which is the highest in the club’s history and a world record, surpassing the number of Portuguese Benfica members, which reached 400,000 members.

Hainer was elected by acclamation

Heiner was re-elected by acclamation, receiving the support of a large majority of voting members.

With few exceptions, German football clubs are required to adhere to the so-called “50+1 rule” which obliges members to retain a controlling stake in the club.

This rule ensures that members and fans control the clubs, and prevents outside investors from obtaining a majority of the votes.

Hainer, the former CEO of Adidas, succeeded Uli Hoeneß as president of Bayern Munich in November 2019, and was re-elected for the first time in November 2022. He was the only candidate for the position on Sunday, and was re-elected by an overwhelming majority out of the 1,990 members present, with 85 members opposing his election, while 44 members abstained from voting.

During his introductory speech to the General Assembly, Hainer spoke about several contracts that the club has extended to its players, including its international playmaker Jamal Musiala, calling on its French international defense tycoon, Dayo Upamecano, to extend his contract with the club.

He added, “A year ago in this place, I expressed my hope that Bayern Munich would keep Jamal Musiala, Jose Kimmich and (Canadian) Alphonso Davis. The club management made this request and Bayern can now continue to build with these three players.”

Musiala (22 years old) and Davis (25 years old) are now linked to Bayern Munich until 2030, that is, one season longer than Kimmich (30 years old).

He continued, to the applause of those in the hall, “These three extensions, along with the extension of (Belgian coach) Vincent Kompany’s contract, are an indication that something is growing at Bayern. For this reason I also say: +Dear Daewoo Upamecano, I voluntarily invite you to do the same.”

Upamecano joined Bayern Munich at the end of 2021, coming from Leipzig, under an initial contract of 5 seasons that will end next June.

The 27-year-old defender (34 international matches) has become a mainstay in the Bavarian club’s defense, and he praises the work of his coach Kompany, who was also a defense mogul and who extended his contract two weeks ago until the summer of 2029.
