Bar workers on CP – Comboios de Portugal long-distance trains decided to go ahead with a strike and permanent vigil, starting this Thursday, 6th, and for an indefinite period, to demand compliance with the company agreement.

According to a statement, the Union of Workers in the Hospitality, Tourism, Restaurants and Similar Industry of the South explained that the new concessionaire, ITAU, responsible for the meal service in the bars of the Alfa Pendular and Intercidades long-distance trains, “refuses to comply with the company agreement (AE) in force for workers”.

According to the union, ITAU’s position is “illegal and constitutes an affront to workers who, fairly, fought for many years to improve their living and working conditions”.

The union highlighted that ITAU has “the capacity to pay the amounts set out in the AE of 2025 and to fully respect workers’ rights”.

Therefore, bar workers on the Alfa Pendular and Intercidades long-distance trains will “hold a strike and a permanent vigil, starting on November 6th, to demand respect and full compliance with the company agreement”. This strike runs for an indefinite period of time.

The union demands “schedules that respect the workload of eight hours a day and 35 hours a week”, payment for “work on Saturday and Sunday with a 25% increase” and a “daily meal allowance of 11.50 euros and 13 euros”.

The union structure also wants the payment of seniority payments worth 20 euros each and liability bonuses and transport allowances.

Workers WILL gather outside Santa Apolónia Station, in Lisbon, this morning, and “from that moment on, they will begin a permanent vigil/camp for an indefinite period at Santa Apolónia Station”.
