As part of the actions of the Michoacán Plan for Peace and Justiceand on behalf of the president Claudia Sheinbaumthe secretary of Turismo (Sectur), Josefina Rodriguezheaded, together with the governor of Michoacán, Alfredo Ramírez, the reopening of the Gertrudis Bocanegra Squarein the municipality of Patzcuaro.
In this context, the owner of Sectur He said that in follow-up to the Plan that articulates actions for the reconstruction of the social fabric and the comprehensive development of the entity, work is being carried out permanently to accompany the state with public policies that promote peace, justice and well-being.
He said that his presence in Pátzcuaro endorses the purpose of working in a coordinated manner, recovering and promoting public and tourist spaces as significant as this destination and emphasized that the conservation of urban heritage “is a fundamental tool to strengthen cultural tourism, boost the local economy and improve the quality of life of the communities.”

He recalled that Pátzcuaro was named Magic Town on June 6, 2002and is a national benchmark for heritage preservation, hospitality and cultural wealth, qualities that position it as one of the most emblematic destinations in the country.

“This type of recovery confirms that Pátzcuaro is transformed without losing its essence, that it grows from its roots and projects itself into the future with order, with planning and with pride. And what better tribute to this vision than doing so in a plaza that bears the name of a brave and exemplary woman: Gertrudis Bocanegra,” he said.

Rodríguez Zamora highlighted that the rehabilitation of Plaza Gertrudis Bocanegra also contributes directly to strengthening Pátzcuaro’s candidacy for registration in the UNESCO World Heritage Listby consolidating the preservation of its historic center, its urban layout and the cultural values that distinguish it internationally.
Likewise, he reported that as part of the Michoacán Plan for Peace and Justice in terms of tourist infrastructure, the historic center of Pátzcuaro and its
projection as World Heritage. These actions have begun with the modernization of the underground wiring in the first polygon of the historic center, the remodeling of the old Jesuit Collegeas well as infrastructure works on streets and urban improvement actions that contribute to raising the quality of the environment and the tourist experience.

In this regard, Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla highlighted that the rehabilitation of Plaza Gertrudis Bocanegra represents a strategic action for the recovery of public spaces and the consolidation of Pátzcuaro as a tourist and cultural attraction hub.
“This work reflects the coordinated work between the federal, state and municipal governments to dignify our historical spaces and strengthen the tourism development of Michoacán,” stated the state president.
