The Nigerian Anti-Corruption Commission announced the issuance of an arrest warrant against former Oil Minister Timipre Sylva, on charges of conspiracy and illegal seizure of about $14.8 million.

The authority said – in a statement – that the funds in question belong to an investment carried out by the Local Content Development and Monitoring Authority in the “Atlantic International Refinery and Petrochemical” company as part of a project to establish a refinery.

She added that she obtained a judicial order from the Federal High Court in Lagos on November 6, authorizing her to arrest Silva and refer him for investigation, calling on citizens to report any information regarding his whereabouts to its offices or the nearest police station.

Sylva served as Minister of Petroleum between 2019 and 2023 in the government of former President Muhammadu Buhari, and previously served as Governor of Bayelsa State.

It has not been possible to obtain a comment from him yet, while the text of the judicial ruling stated that Judge D. I. DiPiolo ordered the security services to help bring him before the authority in order to “answer the criminal charges against him.”
