The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned of the deterioration of the humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip with the approach of winter, in light of the continued widespread destruction of infrastructure and housing as a result of the Israeli war of annihilation in the Strip, while the World Health Organization called for the need for aid to flow without obstacles.
The OCHA office said that hundreds of thousands of families in Gaza face the threat of cold and rain without the most basic means of protection, including shelter, winter clothes, and heating methods.
The office explained that only 4% of the agricultural land in the Strip is undamaged and accessible, at a time when infrastructure and housing are still widely destroyed.
In a related context, Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, expressed the international organization’s regret over the slow arrival of aid to the Gaza Strip, despite the passage of weeks since the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel took effect on October 10.
He explained that the United Nations and its partners were able to bring in more than 37,000 tons of aid, mostly food supplies, but it is still far from the 190,000 tons of supplies stored outside Gaza as part of a 60-day humanitarian plan.
The UN spokesman pointed out that the entry of aid is still limited to only two crossing points, without any direct contact between Israel and the north of the Gaza Strip or between Egypt and its south.
He pointed out the continued restrictions on the entry of some international goods and the prevention of some employees of non-governmental organizations from arriving.
“A collapsed health reality”
For its part, the World Health Organization warned of a worsening humanitarian crisis, confirming that about 16,500 patients in Gaza are awaiting evacuation to receive treatment abroad.
The organization called for the urgent reopening of the Rafah crossing and all crossings, and stressed that the crossing constitutes a vital artery for medical evacuations and the entry of health supplies.
The organization also appealed to the international community to allow the flow of aid without obstacles and to receive more patients to relieve pressure on the collapsed health system in the Strip.
Despite the agreement cease-fire Between Hamas and Israel under the auspices of mediators, the Israeli occupation has committed many violations, and is still imposing a stifling siege on Gaza.
And since October 7, 2023 Israel – with absolute American support – committed genocide In the Gaza Strip, it left more than 69,000 martyrs and 170,000 injured, most of them women and children, and thousands missing under the rubble.
