The Axios news website said that the United States has begun a move in the UN Security Council to issue a decision to form an international force with broad powers in Gaza, according to President Donald Trump’s plan for the post-war phase in the Strip.
Axios added – citing an American draft resolution – that Washington sent a draft resolution to a number of Council members to establish an international force in Gaza.
The draft gives the United States and the participating countries a broad mandate to govern Gaza and provide security there, as the draft resolution calls for the “peace council” in the Strip to remain in place until at least the end of 2027.
The document stated that the international force will be tasked with securing Gaza’s borders with Israel and Egypt and protecting civilians and humanitarian corridors. Its tasks also include destroying and preventing the rebuilding of military infrastructure, in addition to disarmament, and training a Palestinian police force that will be a partner of the international force in its mission.
According to Axios, the international force will contribute to stabilizing the security environment in Gaza by ensuring the demilitarization of the Strip.
The website quoted an American official that the draft resolution will be the basis for negotiations in the coming days between members of the UN Security Council.
The American official said that his country aims to vote on establishing the force in the coming weeks and deploying the first forces in Gaza by next January.
He added that the international force will be an enforcement force, not a peacekeeping force, and will include forces from several countries, and will be established in consultation with the Peace Council in Gaza.
16 countries
Meanwhile, Fox News quoted US National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard as saying that 16 countries and 20 government agencies are participating in a multinational force to stabilize Gaza.
The American network reported that Gabbard She made a surprise visit to the American coordination center in Kiryat Gat, Israel. She published pictures of herself speaking to American and Israeli officers.
In statements she made during the visit, Gabbard said that the coordination center is a living example of what can happen when countries unite in common interests, and she spoke of “a real sense of hope and optimism not only in Israel but throughout the Middle East.”
In the same context, News Nation quoted an intelligence official that the US Director of National Intelligence visited the Kerem Shalom crossing on the Gaza Strip border.
The intelligence official said that during her visit to the crossing, Gabbard was briefed on humanitarian relief efforts, adding that her visit to the coordination center was to support President Donald Trump’s goal of bringing peace to the region.
The intelligence official indicated that Gabbard held meetings with her counterparts in Israeli intelligence.
A few days ago, the Telegraph newspaper quoted diplomatic sources as saying that the operating forces supposed to operate on the ground in Gaza will come mainly from countries in the region with the aim of easing tension.
Recently, the US President announced that the Gaza Stabilization Force will be deployed soon and quickly, and said that the leaders of this force are currently being selected. His Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, also spoke about ongoing arrangements to delegate a multinational force, but he stipulated that it be comfortable for the Israeli side.
The force is supposed to be deployed in the Gaza Strip within the framework of implementing the ceasefire agreement that entered into force on October 10th.
The United States and Israel want the international force supposed to be deployed in Gaza to disarm the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other resistance factions and impose security, but the resistance announced that it accepts them as separation forces, monitoring the borders, and following up on the implementation of the ceasefire.
