Reuters quoted a US official as saying that Washington will share a draft resolution on US President Donald Trump’s peace plan for the Gaza Strip with the ten elected members of the UN Security Council.
The official added that representatives of Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the UAE will join the United States, “highlighting regional support” for the plan.
The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and Israel agreed a month ago on the first phase of Trump’s 20-point plan regarding Gaza, which aims to put an end to the war of extermination on the Strip and release the Israeli prisoners.
The text seen by Reuters showed that the United States had drafted a draft Security Council resolution that would approve a two-year mandate for a transitional governing body in Gaza and an international force to stabilize the Strip.
The two-page text will allow the transitional governing council to establish an interim international stabilization force in Gaza that can “use all necessary measures,” in reference to force, to implement its mandate.
It is not yet clear whether any changes have been made to the draft resolution, which will be distributed to the ten elected members of the Security Council.
The resolution requires at least 9 supportive votes and Russia, China, the United States, Britain, or France not to use their veto power in order for it to be adopted.
