A review of Borges
Regarding the work, starting with the stories of Jorge Luis Borgesits new publishing house considers that “they constitute one of the fundamental chapters of the 20th century literature because they are a form of intellectual and aesthetic exploration in which the rigor of construction and metaphysical invention, erudition and enigma, thought and fable coexist.”
Therefore, this volume will bring together, in chronological order, all of Borges’s story books. —Universal history of infamy, Fictions, The AlephThe Brodie Report, The sand book y Shakespeare’s memory—, because “Borges conceived literature as a universe (…) that questions reality with the same lucidity with which he invents it.”

All of these books “trace Borges’s career as an essayist who turns criticism into a form of creation and scholarship into art.” Faced with this Borgesian scenario, Alfaguara specifies that: “The breadth of his interests and the originality of his thought transformed the essay into one of the most personal forms of his work and allow us to follow the evolution of his thought: from avant-garde fervor to lucid skepticism“.
Borges, the poet
Although it is likely that all of Borges’ work can be read as a long poetic meditation, everything is intensely concentrated in his collections of poems: Fervor of Buenos Aires a The Conspiratorspassing through Moon in front, Notebook of Saint Martin, The maker, The other, the same, For the six strings, Praise of the shadow, The gold of the tigers, The deep rose, The iron coin, History of the night y The figure.
A poetic journey that spans more than six decades of writing and forms the almost secret axis of a key chapter of 20th century literature. “The verses that this volume brings together are made of memory and revelation, of irony and candor, of the music of speech and the rigor of thought. If the same questions that run through his stories and essays resonate in them, it is because Borges found in poetry not an answer, but a way of inhabiting the mystery,” the publisher concluded.
All titles will be published simultaneously on Alfaguara in Latin Americawith the exception of Argentina, where his books will continue to appear on the Sudamericana label.
