The former rector of the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos (UAEM), Alejandro “N”, was arrested in the municipality of Cuautla through an arrest warrant executed by agents of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR). His arrest was registered in the National Detention Registry after 3:00 p.m.

Alejandro “N” was rector of the UAEM from 2012 to 2018 and during his administration he was linked to the “Master Scam” case and in July 2020 the Federal Court of Administrative Justice (TFJA) found him guilty of diverting 239.3 million pesos of federal resources through non-existent operations.

To prevent his arrest, the former rector promoted an amparo and obtained a provisional suspension against acts of the first district judge of federal criminal proceedings in Mexico City, based in the Reclusorio Norte.

The former rector was detained in the eastern part of the state and from there he was taken to the FGR delegation in Cuernavaca and later transferred to the central offices of CDMX. His capture, federal sources confirmed, is related to the “Master Scam” case as part of the “Crusade Against Hunger” program, during the administration of former President Enrique Peña Nieto.

The arrest warrant against Alejandro “N” had been released since 2018.

In July 2020, the TFJA confirmed the compensatory liability against Vera Jiménez, established in January 2019 by the Superior Audit of the Federation (ASF).

The accusations against Alejandro “N” date back to 2013 when the Morelos university received 239.3 million pesos from the Ministry of Social Development and then sent 85% to the company Evyena Servicios, which was never located during the audits.

With the adverse ruling, the full-time professor and researcher initiated the amparo trial 495/2020, before the Second District Court in federal matters, based in Morelos and obtained the provisional suspension.

In October 2019, Alejandro “N” resigned from the position of General Director of the Morelos Science and Technology Council for personal reasons, but since then the investigations against him contained in the so-called Master Scam had advanced.

Two weeks before his resignation, he promoted two amparo proceedings against acts of the first judge of the District of Federal Criminal Proceedings in Mexico City and protected himself against any detention or arrest order issued against him.

The former rector participated as a New Alliance candidate for the State Government in the 2018 elections but in the last weeks of the race he declined in favor of the coalition candidate Together we will make history. Cuauhtémoc Blanco Bravowhich guaranteed his incorporation into the cabinet as director of the Science and Technology Council.
