Two years after the genocidal war committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip in front of the world, the Gazans proved their adherence to their cities and towns despite the destruction and killing, and they returned to searching for life from under the rubble.
But the most prominent question revolves around the position of the international community. Will it remain silent or will it extend a helping hand to the Gazans to help them return to the life they deserve like all human beings?
The “For the Rest of the Story” program showed a special film that reflected the suffering of citizens since the beginning of the genocidal war against them two years ago, and the killings they suffered during that period, which claimed the lives of nearly 65,000 martyrs and tens of thousands of wounded and missing people, while the percentage of destruction inflicted on Gaza Strip homes exceeded 80%.
Despite the massive destruction that befell all the cities of the Strip, many Gazans began attempts to reclaim their destroyed homes despite the lack of capabilities and the extent of the great damage to these homes. Some of them decided to live on the rubble of their home until the time came when they could rebuild it to prove to the world that they are the owner of this land and will not leave it.
After declaring the end of the war, the Gaza municipality found itself completely unable to provide the minimum basic services to citizens, after the war had lost all its tools and machinery and destroyed the city’s infrastructure in an insane manner.
According to what municipality spokesman Nabih Assem confirmed to the episode (10/27/2025) of the program “The Story Has Rest,” the transition from the emergency phase to the early recovery phase requires providing urgent needs, most notably heavy machinery, which works to open roads and remove rubble, in addition to maintaining water and sewage networks and collecting more than a quarter of a million tons of waste accumulated throughout the city.
The municipal official points out that the sector is completely dependent on electricity generators after the electrical supply was interrupted since the first days of the aggression, which requires the introduction of sufficient quantities of fuel to operate the remaining vital facilities.
Sanitation
Nabih stresses the urgent need for 1,000 tons of cement only to build sanitation facilities and water wells, without taking into account the requirements for rebuilding destroyed homes or repairing other infrastructure.
The municipality spokesman points out that more than 200,000 linear meters of sewage networks were damaged in Gaza City alone, while these numbers doubled at the level of the entire sector.
He did not hide his disappointment at not receiving any aid so far, despite submitting detailed lists of needs to international institutions and various organizations, stressing that the suffering that continued during two years of war is still continuing even after the ceasefire was announced.
In the same context, the director of the field crews in the Civil Defense in Gaza, Ibrahim Abu Al-Rish, confirms that the nature of the weapons used in recent months did not only destroy the surface of the earth, but rather their impact extended to the ground, leading to the almost complete destruction of the water and sanitation infrastructure.
Abu Al-Rish warns that more than 80% of the materials and missiles thrown at the Gaza Strip did not explode, which poses a deadly danger to citizens returning to their homes.
The director of the field crews explains that the occupation forces destroyed more than 75% of the total central wells belonging to the municipality, in addition to more than 120,000 linear meters of water networks, which made water delivery limited to very narrow areas of the city.
Abu Al-Rish points out that the desalination plant located northwest of the city, which had been supplying Gaza with more than 10% of total water imports since the beginning of the aggression, has stopped.
“Minister of Happiness”
On the other hand, the Palestinian artist and media personality Mahmoud Al-Zaiter, whom the people of Gaza called the “Minister of Happiness,” narrates his experience staying in Gaza during the war and his continuous attempts to instill hope in the hearts of the people.
Al-Zaiter explains that the people of Gaza are a people who love life and embrace it, despite all the suffering and destruction, pointing out that his stay in Gaza during the war was a message of hope to the citizens that they are not alone.
