The revival of Vine, the popular six-second video platform, is made possible by new app diVine, backed by Jack Dorsey. DiVine provides access to over 100,000 archived Vine videos, taken from a backup created before Vine closed.
Unlike traditional social media, which is often flooded with generative AI content, diVine relies on strict control of this content. Suspicious AI-generated videos will be flagged and cannot be uploaded. This measure is intended to ensure the authenticity of the content and give users back control over their social experiences.
diVine’s funding comes from Jack Dorsey’s non-profit organization “and Other Stuff,” which was founded in May 2025. Evan Henshaw-Plath, a former Twitter employee, played a key role in restoring Vine content and developing the new platform.
A crucial aspect of diVine is the use of the decentralized protocol Nostr, which allows developers to create and run their own apps. This openness and decentralization are intended to prevent the platform from being influenced by corporate interests. Jack Dorsey emphasizes that this approach gives developers the freedom to develop innovative solutions without relying on traditional business models.
While Elon Musk, the current owner of Twitter, has also announced plans to revive Vine, diVine is already one step further. The platform relies on a fair usage concept in which the original creators of Vine videos retain their rights and have the ability to manage or remove their content. This return to an authentic, non-algorithm-driven social experience could usher in a new era for social media.
