The budget of the Atlantic Axis of the Northwest Peninsular is 5.1 million euros, revealed this Thursday, the 13th, the organization that will be chaired by the mayor of Lugo for the next two years.
In a statement, Eixo Atlântico, a cross-border intermunicipal organization that brings together municipalities in the North of Portugal and Galicia, explains that the program and budget for 2026 were approved today by the Executive Committee, which met in Lugo, Galicia, Spain.
The documents will be presented for ratification at the organization’s General Assembly, scheduled for February 2026.
“Among the program’s proposals, the creation of a Strategic Council was approved, made up of people who had a relevant participation in the life of the Eixo Atlântico and who, away from political activity, can contribute with a strategic and consensual vision for the Eixo Atlântico’s line of action”, it is described in the press release.
The Eixo Atlântico explains that the objective of the Strategic Council “is reflection and debate with the members of the Eixo Atlântico to establish the entity’s strategic lines”.
At today’s meeting, the Executive Committee elected the mayor of Lugo, Miguel Fernández, as president of Eixo Atlântico for the next two years.
Fernández replaces Luís Nobre, president of the Viana do Castelo Chamber, who will take on the role of vice-president.
It was also decided, at the meeting, that the inauguration of the XV Eixo Atlântico Painting Biennial will be held in Viana do Castelo on November 27th and, in Galicia, in Ribeira, in May 2026.
The headquarters of the Musical Exhibition will be Vilalba, in May, he adds.
