The Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) reported on the seizure of 2 and a half tons of cocaine, distributed in 87 packages, in an operation off the Pacific coast of Michoacán.

The seizure occurred while the country’s security forces were carrying out maritime and aerial surveillance tours, “A load was seen and 47 packages weighing 1,354 kilograms of suspected cocaine were seized; following this operation, an additional load of 40 packages weighing 1,196 kilograms of cocaine was located.”as detailed by the SSPC in a statement.

The seized substances represent an economic impact of more than 980 million pesos and about five million doses.

The drug was made available to the corresponding Public Ministry agent, who will begin an investigation into the case.

Members of the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) participated in the operation through the Mexican Navy in Coast Guard functions, in coordination with the Secretariat of National Defense (Defense), Attorney General’s Office (FGR), National Guard (GN) and Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC).

Since October 2024, Mexico has seized some 51 tons of cocaine in operations at sea.

Drug traffickers use different routes, including the sea, to traffic drugs in Mexico and their potential transfer to the United States.
