Pamela Hemphill, a woman who was part of the mob that stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, has rejected the pardon granted by the new president of the United States, Donald Trumpthe newspaper reported this Wednesday Idaho Statesman.
“Accepting the pardon would be a insult to Capitol Police officersto the rule of law, to our nation,” said Hemphill, 71 years old and resident of Boise (Idaho), in a telephone interview with that newspaper.
“The January 6 criminals are trying to rewrite history ensuring that it was not a riot or an insurrection. “I don’t want to be part of their attempt to rewrite what happened that day,” he added.
Hemphill was informed Tuesday by her attorney that had benefited from Trump’s pardon of nearly 1,500 people who participated in that attempted insurrection to try to stop the ratification of Joe Biden’s electoral victory.
This woman, who posted videos on social media of herself entering the Capitol that day, was sentenced to two months in prison, three years’ probation and a $500 fine after a plea deal with prosecutors for a misdemeanor.
Hemphill revealed in an interview that he feels like if he had been part of “a sect” which led him to believe that Trump had been a victim of electoral fraud in 2020 and that Joe Biden should be prevented from assuming power.
His thoughts now are with the police officers who were injured: “It’s like the country has let them down. They were the heroes that day“.
Another of those pardoned, arrested again
Another of those blessed with the presidential pardon, Daniel Ball39 years old, was arrested this wednesday for possession of a firearm. The individual is now charged with possessing a firearm or ammunition in May 2023 having previously been convicted of crimes of domestic violence, as well as resistance and aggression to law enforcement.
Ball had been accused in Washington DC of twelve charges related to the attack on the Capitol, among them for the use of an explosive device against police officers and aggression or resistance to authorities, and he was in preventive detention.
The president signed on Monday the presidential pardon and commutation of sentences in the Oval Office of the White House, where he stressed that there are nearly 1,500 people benefiting from this measure, whom he called “hostages”. In addition to the pardons there are six commutations.
