The woman, who was arrested this November, has been identified as Bruna Caroline Ferreira, a Brazilian citizen and mother of Leavitt’s nephew who resided in the United States despite her tourist visa expired in June 1999.
According to CNN, Leavitt’s nephew has lived in New Hampshire with his father since his birth and his mother has not had contact with Leavitt for many years, according to CNN. CNN.
Ferreira was reportedly arrested this month in Revere, Massachusetts, by immigration authorities, under suspicion of having committed an assault, although he did not give more details about it.
The woman remains held in an immigration detention center in Louisiana, pending deportation.
However, Ferreira’s lawyer, Todd Pomerleau, denied that his client has a criminal record and also assured that the detainee was arrested in her vehicle without a court order and that she was in the process of obtaining her permanent residence.

Leavitt, affiliated with the Republican Party, became the youngest person to hold the position of White House press secretary.
She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communications arts and political science from Saint Anselm College and previously worked as press secretary in the first Trump administration, as well as communications director for Congresswoman Elise Stefanik.
