María Corina Machado, opposition leader in Venezuelahas asked during this Saturday the military led by President Nicolás Maduro to “put down their weapons” to facilitate “the freedom” of the country “when the right time comes“.
“What is going to happen is already happening. That decisive hour is imminentthe position that each one takes will mark their life forever. History, the law and the Venezuelan people will be your judges“, he detailed Machado in an audio published on their social networks.
The anti-Chavista has expressed in her message that “roar of this land that demands freedom grows and resonates inside and outside” the nation.
Furthermore, Machado has asked “those who today carry out the infamous orders” that, “when the time comes, go out and hug the peopleto his people.”
“You will know very well how and when to take that step because everything around you will be unequivocal. Be a hero and not a criminal, be proud and not a shame on your familybe part of the bright future of Venezuela. (…) That day is approaching,” he added.
Maduro calls for demonstrations
For its part, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduroand the main leaders of Chavismo have taken to the streets of the country on Saturday in the middle of the escalation of tensions with the US following Washington’s announcement of Operation ‘Southern Spear’. An action that is carried out to, supposedly, combat drug trafficking originating in Latin America, three months after the beginning of the North American military deployment in the Caribbean.

Maduro has led together with his wife, the deputy Cilia Floresand swearing-in ceremony in Caracas of new groups of Chavista militancy, which was replicated in different cities of the country, attended by figures from the ruling party such as the executive vice president and head of Hydrocarbons, Delcy Rodriguezwho led the activity in the state of Carabobo (north).
From Caracas, Maduro, after briefly singing ‘Imagine’ de John Lennon and accuse the US government of trying to “bomb and invade” Venezuelaasked the hundreds of his followers who were there to put their “hand on their hearts” and commit to the defense of the homeland.
The head of state designated this November 15 as a “historic day” because, in his opinion, it was demonstrated that the people “are awake, willing and prepared to defend” the country from “any threat and any criminal aggression.

At the center of Maduro’s demonstrations and Corina’s words is the same actor: the United States.
