The Nasser Hospital, in Khan Younis (south of Gaza), where the bodies are being taken, was only able to identify seven people due to their serious state of deterioration.
One of the hospital’s doctors sent the Spanish news agency EFE photographs of one of the bodies received, which, according to that media outlet, showed a deformed face with the head still bandaged with the bandage that allegedly covered the eyes.
The hands were still handcuffed behind the back and numerous marks and injuries were visible on the arms.
The deterioration of the bodies is such that Nasser Hospital had to organize meetings with the families of the missing, where images of the bodies are shown, so that some of them can identify them and contribute to their identification.
The return of prisoners and hostages alive and dead on both sides is part of the ceasefire agreement signed two weeks ago between Israel and Hamas.
The agreement, negotiated at the proposal of US President Donald Trump, determined that for each hostage returned, Israel would hand over the remains of 15 dead Gaza residents.
Hamas handed over the bodies of 10 hostages, with 18 still missing.
The agreement also included the suspension of the Israeli military offensive in Gaza, launched in retaliation for the Hamas attacks on Israeli soil on October 7, 2023.
In two years of war, more than 68,000 deaths and 170,000 injuries were recorded, although it is feared that the number is higher, as bodies continue to be found in areas from which Israeli troops have withdrawn in recent days.
