As part of the Justice Plan for the People of the Sierra Tarahumara in Chihuahua, President Sheinbaum handed over the ownership title to more than three thousand hectares of land to the Ódami people.
Mexico City, December 13 (However).- The President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo visited Guadalupe y Calvo this Saturday, in Chihuahuato lead the delivery of land al Ódami villagein an event where he broke the protocol he had maintained by giving the floor to some members of this community to listen to them and find out their needs.
At the event, the Chief Executive delivered the title deed of more than three thousand hectares of land to the community representative, an action that is part of the Justice Plan for the People of the Sierra Tarahumara.
“We are once again here in the Sierra, now with the Ódami people, to hand over land. It is about handing over what was always yours, but that had not been recognized: three thousand hectares that are being handed over today so that you can recognize yourselves and do justice in the territory, territorial justice. This is part of the Justice Plan of the people of the Sierra Tarahumara,” he reported.
In an unprecedented event, members of the Ódami people took the floor to express to the President what the needs of their community are; In response, Sheinbaum promised to address them and undertake actions in terms of road infrastructure, electrification, connectivity and new schools, in addition to promising to return to monitor progress.
In addition to the delivery of territory, the president announced that other actions will be undertaken to benefit the inhabitants of the region, such as their incorporation into the Sembrando Vida program, the repair of potholes, the expansion of health centers and guaranteeing the supply of medicines.
In addition, the federal government, through the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), will begin the construction of a nursing school next to the Guachochi Hospital, an institution that will have the purpose of training medical personnel in the region in their native language.

Government advances with return of lands to indigenous peoples
The head of the Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu), Edna Elena Vega Rangel, stressed that since the first months of President Sheinbaum’s Administration, territorial justice began to return lands to the indigenous peoples, for which they have been titled:
- Two thousand 178 hectares for Rarámuris communities of the Sierra Tarahumara.
- More than five thousand 956 hectares delivered to the Wixárika community of San Sebastián Teponahuaxtlán and its annex Tuxpan.
- 317 hectares for the Mogótavo Rarámuri community.
- 502 hectares returned to the Ódami Mesa Colorada community.
For his part, the general director of the National Institute of Indigenous Peoples (INPI), Adelfo Regino Montes, explained that with the three thousand 27 hectares that were returned to the Ódami people, there are six thousand 26 hectares of the Sierra Tarahumara returned to their native peoples.
