Sheinbaum define los términos de la relación con Trump.

President Sheinbaum declared that the interaction did not leave great progress, but it did provide clarity about the Mexican position.

City of Mexico, 8 of diciembre (SinEmbargo).- The President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo shared this Monday that in his recent meeting with the American President Donald Trump reiterated that Mexico will maintain a relationship based on I respect mutual and the defense of its sovereignty.

“Mexico always has to seek a good relationship with the United States [EU]. The reason is: one, because they are our neighbors; two, because 40 million Mexicans live there and we always have to defend them; and three, because it is better to reach agreements. How does this relationship occur? Well, with principles, without subordination,” he reiterated in his conference morning from Palacio National.

The Mexican president recalled that, since the beginning of the new administration in Washington, her Government has made clear the framework in which the bilateral relationship will develop: coordination, but without giving up sovereignty or Mexico’s ability to decide its course.

“It was a very cordial meeting with a lot of respect for Mexico, we may not agree, but I think we should always seek a good relationship,” he added.

The President added that the defense of Mexicans living in the United States will continue to be a permanent topic in her dialogue with the White House.

Besides. He pointed out that in each meeting he insists on the value and contribution of the Mexican community in that country, as well as the importance of guaranteeing their rights: “Anywhere we are we talk about that, what Mexicans represent there.”

Regarding Friday’s meeting, the President explained that it was a brief exchange without specific agreements, but enough to set the tone of the communication between both governments. He also clarified that a trilateral agenda was not discussed with Canada and that the meeting was strictly protocol.

“It’s not that we have made much progress, but we hope to continue working,” he said, mentioning that, as the bilateral dialogue develops, he will be able to offer more information.

The President rules out new massive extradition

Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo clarified that, for the moment, a new massive extradition of criminal bosses to the United States is not contemplated.

In his message, he explained that, in cases where the sending of a person is requested without there being an arrest warrant in Mexico, the request is proceeded with. However, when there are judicial processes open in national territory, the legal framework must be respected and the procedures established before any transfer must be followed.

“No. What happens is that, when there is an extradition and a person is detained who does not have, for example, an arrest warrant, he is normally deported here. That is what has happened at this time; otherwise, the entire extradition process is carried out. But, up to this moment, with the Security Council, no other mass shipment has been contemplated. That does not mean that there will not be one,” he mentioned.
