Terence Crawford he was left without the title he won from Saul Canelo Alvarezsince the CMB stripped him for breach.
He Wednesday December 3he World Boxing Council (WBC) announced that it officially stripped the American boxer of the super middleweight belt who beat Canelo Álvarez in the past September 13, 2025.
According to the WBC statement, the sanction is due to Crawford not making the corresponding payment for, supposedly, winning $50 million in the fight with the Mexican. The organization even indicated that they lowered the quota from 3% to 0.6% of the total that the American won.

The agency added that it contacted Crawford and his representatives on multiple occasions to make the payment, but received no response:
“The WBC sent multiple communications to champion Crawford, his representative and his legal counsel. Unfortunately, we received no acknowledgment or response to any of them. The WBC had no choice but to act.”
Furthermore, the Advice points out that of 0.6%, 75% was destined to the José Sulaimán Boxers Fund administered to help fighters around the world in need of humanitarian aid.
Terence Crawford responds with insults to the WBC
After the announced measure, the American boxer used his social networks to publish a video in which he expressed insults to the organization and questioned the authority, directed by Mauricio Sulaiman.
He added that he will not pay the requested fee: “I’m not going to pay them a damn thing. What makes them better than other regulatory bodies?”

Will they return the championship to Canelo Álvarez?
Some questioned whether the WBC will return the title to Saúl Canelo Álvarez after the situation with Crawford, however, it will not be like that and the super middleweight belt will be in dispute.
The World Boxing Council ordered that boxers Hamzah Sheeraz (British with a record of 22-1, 18 KOs) and Christian Mbilli (Cameroonian, with a record of 29-0-1, 24 KOs), compete for the vacant title.
