The Chinese electric car brand BYD sold 706 units during the month of Novemberin the national market, while its North American rival Tesla did not go beyond 425 units.
This is not the first time that this discrepancy has been recorded between the two most direct competitors in this segment, although BYD is also now selling new hybrid models on the national market, while Tesla only sells electric vehicles.
In the market as a whole, in November 2025, 20,245 motor vehicles were registered in Portugal, that is, 4.5% more than in the same month of 2024.
Market grows 6.6% year-to-date
From January to November 2025, 239,843 new vehicles were put into circulation, which represented an increase of 6.6% compared to the same period of the previous year.
The data was released this Tuesday by the Automobile Association of Portugal (ACAP) and also reveals that the sale of 100% electric cars represented, in the first 11 months of the year, 22.9% of the total, already very close to cars with gasoline engines (25%) and well above those equipped with diesel engines (5.7%).
