The Secretary of Security maintained that there are no elements that show links between drug trafficking money and the Miss Universe pageant that declared the Mexican Fátima Bosch the winner.
Mexico City, November 30 (However).-The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Omar García Harfuchruled out this Sunday that there are clues of money coming from drug trafficking in the contest Miss Universeafter the ongoing investigation against the businessman Raul Rocha Cantuowner of the beauty pageant.
“We have no indication that there is money from organized crime in the Miss Universe contest, we do not have it nor do we have anything related to it that has to do with the contest, as such, with the corresponding investigations,” stated the head of the SSPC.
At a press conference he was asked about the case of the Monterrey businessman, Rocha Cantú, whom the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) accuses of being allegedly responsible for money laundering, drug trafficking, huachicoleo and bribery.
“The investigation to which you refer led to 13 arrest warrants, as was already reported at the time, one of them is this person, which were carried out in coordination, in full coordination with the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic, with a joint investigation between the Prosecutor’s Office itself, the Security Secretariat, the institutions that make up the Security Cabinet, we all contributed information for this investigation,” Harfuch added without giving more details.
On November 26, the Prosecutor’s Office revealed that it is carrying out an investigation against Raúl Rocha Cantú, president of Miss Universe, as well as 12 other people for “organized crime, in relation to drug trafficking, huachicol and arms trafficking.”

On November 29, the FGR office manager appointed Héctor Elizalde Mora as the new head of the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC); César Oliveros Aparicio as the person designated to operate the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime of the FGR; and Laura Ángeles Gómez, who will be in charge of the Chief Officer’s Office.
