“Persistent low profitability is driving the industry [de componentes] down a dangerous path. Without decisive measures, the manufacture of car parts in Europe is at risk of disappearingas companies are forced to relocate or close their doors, putting jobs and expertise at risk.”
The warning was given this Thursday by Benjamin Krieger, secretary general of the European Automotive Suppliers Association (CLEPA), in a statement which also refers to the production base on the European continent being “under increasing pressure”.
According to that association, the low profitability recorded in the sector, the declining production capacity and the “intensification of foreign competition – particularly from China – compromises the sector’s capacity”.
